Potential Uses

There are an infinite number of potential uses for your log cabin. Below are some of the more popular ideas and a few bits of advice to get them off the ground.

Garden Gym
Having a log cabin or summerhouse to store and use gym equipment is an excellent idea. Your garden building will give you a ventilated and airy place to work out so the rooms in your house don’t end up stuffy and cluttered. You will more than likely need to run an electrical supply to the cabin for this option but you should not need a direct water supply unless you are planning to add a shower. Adding some curtains will also offer you privacy and adding a portable TV/DVD player will keep you entertained while you work out.

Garden Office
If you work from home or are self employed having a garden office may be the perfect solution to your storage problems. Sacrificing a room to an office is sometimes just not enough, files, records and equipment can soon take up two rooms and waste valuable house space. That’s where one of the spacious log cabins can step in as an attractive garden office. You will definitely need to run an electrical line to your garden office as well as addition cables such as phone or internet. The office will provide an easily heated and ventilated room to work from and can easily be equipped with a water cooler to provide hydration throughout your day. Add curtains or shutters for more security or lock equipment away in the specially designed cupboards at night to prevent prying eyes noticing it.

Games Room/Spare Bedroom.
If you want something a little more relaxing than a gym or office then this option may be for you. Adding a pool table, pinball table and a TV may be an excellent idea for creating a games retreat for yourself and friends. All it would require is an electrical supply for your appliances and a few select pieces of furniture to brighten the room up. Some posters and art would be a fantastic choice as well as some mood casting lights and maybe even a fold out sofa bed for when the party simply goes on for too long! This is one of the builds you could consider running a toilet from, if you do always check with your local council that such a modification would not require planning permission and consider how you will separate the room if you are purchasing a one room log cabin. It is wise these things be considered before you erect the building.

Delivery

There is no need to assist unloading. Your Garden Building is delivered on a lorry equipped with a crane. All you have to do is to move it from your door to the garden where you want to build it.

The courier will contact you 2-3 days prior to the expected delivery date to confirm the delivery time. Please make sure someone is present to receive the order with the form of identification which was used when you placed your log cabin order.

Important! Please ensure there is sufficient access for a 3m x 12m lorry (40ft articulated lorry) before placing your order otherwise a re-delivery charge may apply. A re-delivery involves a delivery with a small designated lorry and the shipping cost would be much higher.

Installation Manuals

All individual log cabin listings will contain a weblink to a PDF file of the instruction manual. Please note that you will need Acrobat Reader to open these PDF files.

You will require the following tools for assembly work
  • Helper
  • Spirit level
  • Knife
  • Stepladder
  • Screwdriver
  • Tape measure
  • Hammer
  • Wood / metal saw
  • Pliers
  • Drill

You might need somebody to help you with the assembly. Please take every possible safety precaution while assembling your cabin as we cannot be responsible for any injuries or damages caused during assembly of your Log Cabin or Summer House.

Important: All screw connections must be pre-drilled to prevent the wood splitting.

Remember If you are not a competent DIY person we recommend you to ask for help from a specialist or use one of our joiners. Please note that our customer support is not qualified to help you with the assembly.

Construction

Planning
Please read the assembly instructions fully before you start to assemble your log cabin. This will help avoid any difficulties that may waste your time. The cabin has undergone several checks in the pre-delivery process but nevertheless you should check that all the contents of the kit are present before starting assembly work and at the latest 14 days after delivery.

Foundation
Take great care in making your foundation. Make the foundation so that the top projects around 5 cm above the surrounding ground surface. The foundation must be completely level and by drained so that all the support timbers can be placed straight onto it.
The foil is designed to keep moisture out of the cabin. To prevent direct contact between the support timbers and the soil / foundation, cut the foil for the cabin into strips and place them under the support timbers. You can also use bitumen (damp course strips). We suggest that you use the following types of foundation:

  • Strip foundation
  • Poured concrete foundation
  • Concrete slab foundation

The foundation soil, right-angled corners and flat surfaces are the main criteria to ensure that the foundation is durable. With a good foundation, your cabin will last many years longer than otherwise. If necessary seek advice from a specialist or have the foundation made by a specialist.

Storage until assembly
Your Log Cabin or Summer House is made of high quality spruce timber and is supplied untreated.
Please note that the kit is not supplied in waterproof packaging.
The foil will only protect the timber from dirt and UV.
Therefore you must store the kit in a dry place and off the ground until its assembly so that it is protected from the weather (damp, direct sunlight, etc.).
Do not store the goods in a heated room.

Preparation / Care / Wood preservation
All the parts that you will not be able to access once the cabin has been assembled must be treated properly with wood preservative before assembly. Immediately after assembly you should treat the rest of the cabin, include the interior, with a deep effect preservative primer (preventive protection from blue fungus stain and mould). Use a weatherproof varnish which offers high physical protection for the topcoat to protect the timber from moisture and UV radiation. The varnish should also be moisture-regulating, water-repellent and lightfast. Do not use paint. Ask your dealer for advice about coatings for untreated softwood for outdoor use and follow the instructions for use provided by the manufacturer.
The timber must be recoated depending on the effects of weathering on it. At the same time we recommend that you
treat the interior of the cabin and the door with a colourless wood preservative which is suitable for indoor use.
Proper protection for the timber will have a major effect on the lifespan of your cabin.

Timber quality
Our cabins are made of high quality spruce wood. Wood is a natural product and every wooden part has its own coloration and finish. Wood never looks the same which is one of the properties that make it so popular. If you have a complaint despite our careful checks, please contact us along with the completed checklist and receipt.
Warranty claims will be limited to the replacement of defective materials. No other claims will be accepted.
Material which has already been treated will not be replaced.
Discrepancies that are not regarded as grounds for replacement:
- Knots which are firmly attached to the timber.
- Wood discoloration which has no effect on its service life.
- Twisted wood as long as it is still suitable for use.
- Cracks / dry cracks which do not extend right through the material and do not affect the construction.
- The planks in concealed parts of the roof and floor planks may not be planed.
- Longitudinally glued (finger-jointed) planks are acceptable and normal.
Material complaints are not accepted if the parts have already been coated.
We will charge for any work we carry out as a result of complaints that are due to poor foundations or assembly errors.
